Parenting Together Skills Sessions

Is an opportunity to meet with other parents and address a whole range of issues and subjects related to parenting. The sessions will aim to help parent/ caregivers enhance their relationship with their child and then look at how parent/s deal with troublesome behaviours and emotions.

Sessions will look at identifying parenting style obstacles holding you back, and then come up with strategies aimed at overcoming some of these obstacles.

These sessions are developed around how you cope with your child’s development, using different types of parenting and discipline styles, how to use effective communication skills with your child and how to deal with constant changing feelings within you and your child; we look at the whole child, not simply the behaviour, but also their thoughts, feelings.

These sessions aim to provide you with skills strategies and techniques working therapeutically to enable, working in the home environment and in different environments  when communicating with child/ren.

As parents it’s quickly learnt that a big part of parenting is matching discipline, praise and other parenting strategies to your child’s individual needs. In fact, how well your parenting style matches the personality of your child can have in some cases a major impact on how well-adjusted they become later in life.

Whether you’ve got a 4 year old that shouts & screams "I’m in charge mum“ or a 12-year-old ”I’m not a baby I can do it all myself.“

Listening is the most important skill to effective parenting the ability to listen to others is key.

Experiences

There are many reasons why children and young people can present different types of challenging behaviours. It is vital that we have strategies for responding to and managing these behaviours.

Explore past experiences, which may have influenced challenging behaviour then focus on the positive experiences which can provide children and young people with new opportunities; enabling them to build resilience and manage their reactions to challenging situations.

Maybe you feel like your child’s behaviour is too difficult or you’re the only one struggling to manage? These sessions will help to empower you, and help to increase your confidence in your own parenting abilities.

At the end of the day, it’s true to say every child matters, every child is different. What works for one child will not work for all children"
